AMALFI COAST

The Amalfi Coast is the stretch of coast, located south of the Sorrento Peninsula, overlooking the Gulf of Salerno. It is bordered to the west and east from Positano from Vietri sul Mare.

It is a stretch of coastline famous around the world for its natural beauty, home to major tourist sites. It takes its name from the town of Amalfi, the central nucleus of the Coast not only geographically but also historically.
The Amalfi Coast is known for its heterogeneity: each of the countries of the Coast has its own character and its traditions.

The following are part of the coastal towns of the province of Salerno:

  • Amalfi: with its Duomo and its cloister (Chiostro Paradiso);
  • Atrani: with its churches of Saint Salvatore del Birecto end of Saint Maria Maddalena;
  • Cetara,the country of anchovy;
  • Conca dei Marini: the country of sfogliatella, with its Grotta dello Smeraldo of rare beauty and the Church of San Pancrazio with its Belvedere;
  • Furore with a small fjord;
  • Maiori: with the Collegiata of Saint Maria a mare and castle of San Nicola de Thoro Plano;
  • Minori: with the Basilica of Saint Trofimena and the Roman villa;
  • Positano with the Church of the Assunta and the charming old town;
  • Praiano with the churches of Saint Luca and Saint Gennaro and related Belvedere;
  • Scala, the oldest town of the Alamfi Coast;
  • Tramonti;
  • Vietri sul Mare: known throught the world for the ancient ceramics traditions

They olso shared Corbara, and Sant'Egidio del Monte Albino, gathered together in the Mountain Community Peninsula Coast.
